Vishnu Sakharam Khandekar, popularly known as V. S. Khandekar, was one of the most celebrated Marathi writers of the 20th century. His novel Yayati (1959) earned him India's highest literary honour — the Jnanpith Award in 1974 — making him the first Marathi writer to receive this distinction.
